Status: Removed to Yorkshire Sculpture Park
Sean Henry is known for his hyper-detailed, monumental figures. This one – Seated Figure – is one of an edition of three (one is in New Zealand, I’m not sure about the third). It was installed on moorland at Castletown Rigg in 2017.
The 3m high figure soon became a place of pilgrimage, its stoic wistfulness striking a chord with many. If fact, it was so popular that it had to be moved to Yorkshire Sculpture Park in 2019 – four years before it was due to be removed from the moors – due to concerns about land erosion and littering.

The statue’s appearance was compared by many to then-Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn (although I always saw more of Jonathan Pryce in it myself).
