Dove (Billingham, Andrew McKeown, 2005)

Created for Billingham Peace Garden (and sited near the war memorial), Andrew McKeown’s Peace Dove was commissioned by Stockton Council. It depicts a dove holding an olive branch (a design specified by the council) lying flat on a pre-supplied plinth.

The sculpture is accompanied by a plaque. On it is a quote (the opening lines in fact) from American writer Max Ehrmann’s prose poem Desiderata, written for his daughter:

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.’
