Another artwork from the Tees Sculpture Trail commissioned by River Tees Rediscovered, Pat Wall’s ‘Solar Disc’ hides in the Saltern Wetlands near Greatham, which have been used to harvest salt from the sea since medieval times.
The disc is carved from Hill House Edge sandstone, with its concave plinth allowing the disc to remain unbroken. The disc is described as being “inspired by the long-distance views, the incredible horizon and dominant industrial shapes.”
